Jewish Journeys is an independent organisation that offers education programs, Rabbinical services, motivational talks and discussion forums around the Jewish Faith and ethos. Our programs are not only for the Jewish community but also for people who want to further their knowledge or find a different approach to life.

The Jewish Tradition is largely literary; it is rich with many layers of intellectual response to the very human needs of connecting with the Holy and living a fuller life. It wrestles with the question of how to make the world better. Even the mystical movements coming out of Jewish life, such as Kabbalah, ultimately added sacred literature to the vast canons of Judaism.

Most of the important texts of our tradition are now available in translation, lessening the need for language skills for the seeker wishing to immerse themselves in this great literary tradition.  Even so, the texts and concepts are often opaque; some days it seems that one needs a tour guide!  At Jewish Journeys we break this down into a format that is easy to follow and understand.

We are not a congregation, although some of our activities resemble those that normally take place in the context of a Jewish religious congregation.  We seek to support Jewish congregations, as well as congregations of our neighbours’ faiths, through our activities.

What Kind of Judaism do we at Jewish Journeys Represent?

That’s the first question people ask us,  And the answer is that we do not represent, institutionally, any one ‘kind’ of Judaism or stream within Judaism.  That said, many of our programs do not ‘look’ Orthodox and people will assume that we’re therefore Progressive.  Perhaps the best asnwer, is that we’re progressive (lowercase ‘p’).  On the other hand, in all our courses we try very hard to convey the fullness of the Jewish tradition which includes traditional (‘Orthodox’) and non-traditional streams.  A number of students whom we have taught, have after contemplation chosen to pursue the Orthodox stream and that is fine with us.  We have provided support for a Masorti (Conservative) congregation here in Queensland.  We are definitely trans-denominational in our focus.

Outreach to Papua-New Guinea

Although we are ourselves a small and nascent outreach in need of your support, we believe it is important to help other communities more in need than us.  In the best Australian tradition, we are involved in a unique outreach to PNG.  You can read about it here:
